BOTOX® Cosmetic

At Pope Plastic Surgery, BOTOX Cosmetic is popular among Orlando, FL, women and men of all ages who want to look naturally refreshed without surgery or an involved medical spa treatment. When performed by dual board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. George Pope and our highly experienced nurse injector, Linda Gilliland, no one will know why you always look rested and never seem to age.

How does BOTOX work?

BOTOX is a wrinkle relaxer that is injected into tiny facial muscles. Once it takes effect, the treated muscles temporarily release and the overlying skin gradually smoothes out. Because of the way it works, BOTOX is used to address dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by the contractions of facial muscles. Injectable dermal fillers, like JUVÉDERM®, are used for different concerns because they smooth away wrinkles by filling them in from underneath. In many cases, a combination of BOTOX and fillers can provide an even greater rejuvenation than either treatment on its own.

How much does BOTOX cost in Orlando?

The cost of BOTOX in the Orlando area is determined by the number of units injected. Dr. Pope or Linda will discuss your specific pricing after assessing your concerns and goals. Pope Plastic Surgery is proud to offer financing with CareCredit® to help make BOTOX treatments even more affordable.

What are the 3 main areas for BOTOX?

Good candidates for BOTOX treatments are women and men interested in a simple way to look rejuvenated and more youthful. These treatments are commonly used to treat the following 3 areas of the face:

  • Crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes when you smile or squint
  • Glabellar lines between the eyebrows, often called frown lines or the 11s, from concentrating and scowling
  • Horizontal forehead lines from raising the eyebrows

We also use BOTOX as a nonsurgical brow lift to raise sagging eyebrows.

What are the average units needed by area?

While the actual amount of BOTOX needed varies between patients, these are the average amounts for the most frequently treated areas:

  • Crow’s feet: 10 to 12 units per eye
  • Glabellar lines: 20 units
  • Forehead lines: 20 units

What is baby BOTOX?

These days, younger people often choose BOTOX as a proactive measure to keep dynamic lines and wrinkles from forming. This treatment is called “baby” BOTOX because the dose is much smaller than when treating existing lines.

Can you get dermal fillers and BOTOX at the same time?

Because BOTOX and fillers address different concerns, we often perform these treatments together for a nonsurgical or liquid facelift. We can use JUVÉDERM® XC to smooth away smile lines, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® to restore volume to sunken cheeks, JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® for lip augmentation, and many other options.

How are BOTOX treatments performed?

BOTOX treatments are performed right in our office by Dr. Pope or Linda. No anesthetic is necessary, but numbing cream is available if desired. Using a short, fine needle, your practitioner makes a few quick, strategically placed injections that cause little to no discomfort.

Recovery

After treatment, you are free to resume your normal daily routine. The injection sites may be slightly pink for the first few hours, and there may be some bruising, depending on how your body reacts.

What should you avoid after BOTOX injections?

For optimal results, we recommend the following precautions:

Avoid for the first 4 hours:

  • Lying down
  • Bending over at the waist

Hold off on the following until the day after treatment:

  • Rubbing or touching the injection sites
  • Putting pressure on your face, including while sleeping

Postpone the following for the first 24 hours:

  • Direct exposure to excessive sunlight or extreme heat
  • Working out or physical exertion that makes you sweat
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Taking ibuprofen or aspirin

If you have questions, feel free to contact our office.

How long does BOTOX take to work?

While it’s natural to want instant gratification from your treatment, BOTOX results take a few days to develop, making them even more discreet than filler treatments. Treated wrinkles begin to smooth out within 2 to 5 days and continue to fade for about 7 to 10 days.

How long does BOTOX last?

While experiences vary, results usually last about 3 months. We recommend returning for maintenance treatments when you first notice the lines forming again.

BOTOX FAQ

Is BOTOX bad for you?

When administered by an experienced injector to a carefully screened patient, BOTOX has an excellent safety record and is not harmful.

How do I know how many units I need?

A variety of factors dictate the number of units needed, including:

  • Treatment area
  • Aesthetic goals
  • Severity of wrinkles
  • Treatment history

Our experienced injectors will determine the amount needed to address your concerns while ensuring you look natural.

Can you get BOTOX injections while pregnant?

Because the science is inconclusive about the safety of cosmetic injectables during pregnancy, we err on the side of caution and do not offer BOTOX to women during pregnancy.

What’s the best age to get BOTOX?

BOTOX is a versatile treatment, so there is no specific “best” age.  People in their 20s and 30s have it proactively to keep dynamic wrinkles from forming. People in their 40s and up have it to look refreshed and rejuvenated.

Do you age faster after getting this treatment?

When BOTOX wears off, lines and wrinkles will gradually develop as they would if you didn’t have the treatment at all. This emergence of wrinkles gives some people the impression the treatment has made them age.

What’s a BOTOX lip flip?

The lip flip enhances the appearance of the upper lip without adding volume. Very small amounts of BOTOX are injected into the muscles above the upper lip, allowing it to gradually relax and “flip” up. The effect is a slightly fuller upper lip.
