Also known as a forehead lift surgery, a brow lift surgery reduces the lines or creases on forehead, giving it a smoother appearance, and elevates the position of the eye brows for a more youthful look.
A brow lift is often combined with other operations such as blepharoplasty and facelifts to improve the look of the eyes and other areas of the face.
In a traditional brow lift surgery, the surgeon makes a full incision across the top of forehead, behind the hairline. Through this incision, the muscles are tightened and excess skin and tissues are removed to create a smoother forehead surface. The forehead skin is also elevated to lift the position of the eyebrow line and remove horizontal wrinkles. The initial incision is then carefully sutured and closed.
Brow lift surgeries can also be performed endoscopically. In this procedure, several incisions are made in scalp or head. The forehead skin is pulled through these incisions to make it firmer. This is less invasive than traditional brow lift surgery and leaves lesser scars as the incisions are made in scalp. The recovery time is also less in an endoscopic brow life surgery than a traditional surgery.
The average duration of brow lift surgeries is 1 to 2 hours. All eye brow lift surgeries are performed under general anesthesia and patients can be released on the same day, 2 to 3 hours after the surgery. There may be some pain, swelling and discomfort for a few days following the surgery. This is normal and subsides with time. Painkillers prescribed by the surgeon can be taken to avoid such discomfort. Patients can return to normal work within 2 to 3 weeks. The surgeon must be consulted if pain or any discomfort still persists. The results of a brow lift surgery also start to show within 2 or 3 weeks. A younger look and less wrinkled skin are things that can be noticed by anyone.
Brow lift surgeries can be considered by both women and men. It is an effective solution against drooping eye brows and wrinkled forehead skin. Ideally, an eye brow lift surgery, if required, should be taken by people over 40 years of age. It is neither required nor recommended for young adults.
