Cosmetic Surgery Blog: Correcting Breast Asymmetry

Pope Plastic Surgery Center - ASPS Member Surgeon

The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) reports that breast augmentation and breast reduction were the top five procedures performed in 2009.

Breast asymmetry is another very popular surgery for women. Breast asymmetry refers to different sized breasts which can affect a woman’s self-esteem. Cosmetic surgeons can correct the breast asymmetry to make them even and balance.

Breast asymmetry is a common condition and occurs naturally in women. The difference in most women may be small and unnoticeable. However in extreme cases, this breast asymmetry is quite obvious and this is what causes a woman to feel self-confident about the imbalance and have a low self-esteem from it.

Surgeons can use breast implants which add volume to the breasts. Surgeons have to be careful to match both breasts and remove the imbalance. Women who wish to go through this surgery must have stopped growing, meaning they should be over the age of 18.
