Both men and women are naturally conscious about how they look. Many people exert extra effort in order to maintain or improve appearance. The face is the first area that people notice; however, sun exposure, gravity and stress can greatly alter the condition of the face. Deep creases could appear beside the mouth, the jaw line would slacken. Over time, folds and fat deposits may appear on the neck. This is where a Facelift comes in. By removing fat and tightening skin and muscles, it results in a more revitalized and youthful image.

The procedure emphasizes the contours of the face and neck by removing excess skin, smoothing out and tightening the facial skin therefore eliminating major wrinkles of the face, jaw and neck. Facial and neck muscles are elevated then secured to show a more natural, balanced and revitalized appearance

Younger individuals have evenly distributed fatty tissues but as time passes by, the skin sags and prominence of facial folds appear. Thankfully, a Facelift can eliminate this problem resulting into a rejuvenated appearance looking 5-10 years younger.

The procedure is recommended for individuals with the following concerns:

  • The loss of facial contour, presence of wrinkles, loose skin and excess fatty tissue.
  • Skin near the cheekbones is sagging creating a tired facial appearance.
  • A lot of loose skin and tissue under the jaw making the contours and definitions unapparent.
  • A deep line that stretches from the sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth.

A certified surgeon will discuss how the procedure will be performed. The client is asked to describe the desired results.  Images and pictures will be presented to the client to help clients in decide what facial modifications they want. Factors such as skin quality or presence of excess skin of the eyelid will also be taken into consideration

The procedure is very delicate. That’s why the client is put under light general anesthesia. The incisions are placed in unnoticeable areas like the front of the ear, around the earlobe behind the ear, along the hairline or neck. Excess skin is removed in precise amounts to avoid too much tension on the skin. Fine sutures that are barely noticeable are used to close incisions.

After the surgery the clients are required to spend 1-2 nights local aftercare retreat with a trained nurse to monitor your progress. A large soft dressing may be wrapped around the head and surgical drains may also be inserted to prevent fluid accumulation beneath the facial skin. After 24 hours they may be removed. Scalp sutures will be removed in 7-10 days. Recovery periods may vary depending on the extent of the procedure and the client’s recovery progress. It might take 1-2 weeks for swelling and bruising to subside, in cases with Skin resurfacing procedure, light make up may be used to hide minor discolorations. In 3-4 weeks, social activities may be resumed but sun exposure should be avoided for several more weeks. Facial skin and area around the earlobe are expected to be numb for only a few weeks.

After the initial healing phase, clients return to work and social interaction with a refreshed and more confident appearance. Improvement in appearance is gradual so progress may still be noticed up to 6 months. Duration of the procedure results may vary depending on factors like genetics, skin quality, and lifestyle and sun exposure.

Complications after Facelift procedure are not common. However health and healing characteristics may affect the risk for complications. Complications may include infection, bleeding and anesthesia reactions. Wound complications may result from patients who have diabetes, history of smoking, radiation therapy and autoimmune diseases.
