Cosmetic Surgery for Ears

Pope Plastic Surgery Center - ASPS Member Surgeon

Slight deformity on the face can largely affect the self confidence of an individual. But certain problems impact a person since birth and cannot be avoided. Ear deformities are typically inherited. The good news is that medical science has found effective cure for the problem. If someone has ears that are too large, protruding or look odd, ear plastic surgery is the right treatment. Also known as otoplasty, this cosmetic surgery is a proven way to correct protruding or drooping ears, or ears that stick out and are too big for the anatomy of a face. Torn earlobes can also be corrected by the surgery. Ears reach their full size by the age of five or six and it is safe for a minor to undergo an otoplasty, if he or she has a deformity or over sized ears.

It is obviously important to choose the right surgeon for any plastic surgery job. There has been a proliferation of cosmetic surgery and advanced beauty centers in the state – you need to make your choice of the right service very wisely. Dr. George Pope, MD, FACS has over 25 years of experience in plastic and cosmetic surgeries. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is also a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Pope has given life changing experiences to hundreds of people through his plastic surgery treatments. He uses the most effective procedures for individuals after a careful study of their cosmetic problems. Several patients including little children have successfully undergone otoplasty at Pope Plastic Surgery.

Otoplasty may be performed under local or general anesthesia. It starts with an incision behind the ear, in the fold where ear joins the head. The plastic surgeon may have to remove skin and cartilage or reshape and trim the cartilage. Ears are reshaped and more symmetrical with these techniques. The cartilage is then secured in its new position with permanent stitches to hold the ear while healing occurs. An ear plastic surgery typically lasts for up to two hours.

It should be mentioned here that otoplasty does not affect the hearing power of an individual. It is a safe cosmetic medical remedy to improve the appearance of ears which have any deformity by birth or due to an accident.
