He described a surgical procedure employing a moon-shaped sub-mammary cut with provision for resection of skin in pendulous cases. Paulas also mentioned the need for secondary surgery in some cases, stressing that primary procedure may prove inadequate for severe cases.
Treatment of gynecomastia continued to evolve and improve over ages. Cosmetic and revisionist surgeons today use a multifaceted surgical approach to optimize correction of the deformity. The fat from breasts is removed with different liposuction procedures, while the glandular component is removed with direct excision. Skin is then re-draped over underlying structures and is resected in severe cases.
